Playing Field Trust

In 1950 the inhabitants of Newport purchased the playing field area, at the botom of Long Street, for the benefit of the community. This land, which originally constituted two smaller plots, was then conveyed to the Newport Parish Council, now the Town Council, who became the custodian trustees of the land.
Minutes of the regular Trustees meetings can be obtained from the Clerk to the Council or downloaded from the list below.

Since the original purchase of the land the playing field layout has altered considerably. From the construction of Ysgol Bro Ingli and the tennis courts to more recently the development of the Multi Usage Games Area, M.U.G.A and a Children's Activity Centre.

CHILDREN'S ACTIVITY CENTRE and CHANGING ROOMS
Adjacent to the school are the sports changing rooms which are used by the local rugby and football clubs. Howver they are also available, by arrangement, for those particpating in sporting activities on the playng field.

The Children's Activity Centre has a dedicated building for the children of working families in the Newport area.  Its role is to provide an out of school childcare provision, an integrated family facility to complement the community school and to promote the health and well being of the community through providing support for family life/work balance.
The project was partly funded by PLANED 'Communities as the Hub' Project through the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007-2013 which is funded by the Welsh Government and the European Union.

The jurisdiction of the playing field has since been passed to a management committee who consist of representatives from Newport's sporting clubs.
Although this committee is subject to change its goal remains the same, to provide Newport and it's inhabitants with an area for sport and recreation. The committee welcomes any group or club wishing to use the amenities or simply have suggestions on how to further improve the existing facilities.

Further information with regard to hiring any of the above facilities can be obtained from the Clerk to Newport Town Council, who is also the Hon. Sec., either through the link below or telephone 01239 821127.
