Newport Bay Olympic Torch Festival

25-27th May, 2012.

A “Once in a Lifetime” occasion with the
Olympic Torch passing through Newport.

With the Olympic Torch being run through only three places in Pembrokeshire, Newport is an ideal place to come and see this unique event. To celebrate the occasion, Newport is pushing the boat out with a festival of fun, entertainment and sporting activities for everyone.

Friday, 25th May:

The festival kicks off with a gentle cranial “muscle” workout.

Try our special OLYMPIC QUIZ in the Newport Boat Club at 7.00 pm.

 

Saturday, 26th May:

On Your Marks, Get Set, Go!

The physical action starts with a fun multi-sport event based on Olympic sports.

Do 1, 2, 3 or 4 events or enter as a team and live the dream:

5Km MOUNTAIN BIKE RACE

1000M KAYAK RACE

8Km ROAD CYCLING TIME TRIAL

4Km FUN RUN around a special Newport Torch Festival Course

 

At about the same time as the kayak race (i.e. high tide) there will also be a

Race of PADDLERS v ROWERS (Kayaks, Longboats, Canoes, Row boats)

representing two Olympic water sports on the flat waters of the Nevern Estuary.

Also throughout the weekend: FESTIVAL RAFFLE * TENNIS TOURNAMENT

Sunday, 27th May:

The sporty fun gets underway again and there is something for everyone, with a

 

SCHOOLS TORCH RELAY to light our own Torch on the Playing Fields to start the NEWPORT MINI-OLYMPIC “SPORTS DAY featuring a wide range of fun field events for all (details below), a not-to-be-missed TUG of WAR competition and the 10th Newport 10Km Run around the special Newport Torch Festival Course.

Prizes will be presented before 2.30 pm just in time for everyone to gather on the main road (A487) by 3.00pm for

Now it is back to the Playing Fields – let the celebrations continue with:

MASS 4 Km WALKING RACE: with torches (optional) 

MASS BEACH VOLLEYBALL: for all (bikinis, fancy dress?)

PLAYING FIELDS PARTY: Music, Dancing, BBQ, Bar.

And for the big finale

TORCHLIGHT STREET CONGA & FIREWORKS DISPLAY
